Big changes came to the outdoor garden yesterday & today! Jeff built me 2 new raised beds and an herb box! He also tilled up an area for the earth garden. We now have, in the lower bed on the right, strawberries, onions, lettuces, swiss chard, spinach, kohlrabi, and broccoli. The herb box is built onto the end of this bed. The herb box has: Rosemary, Thyme and Greek Oregano. Those were bought as little plants in peat pots today. In the other space I added Cilantro seeds.
The upper right raised bed already had shallots, carrots, peas and lettuce. Yesterday, we added 5 or 6 small tomato plants that I had started indoors as well as a Jalapeno pepper. Today, I added Nasturtiums on the lower side & up the first row of tomatoes. I put Marigolds on the upper side of the bed & down the middle tomato row. Then added chives in a T-shape right by the divider on the left of the tomatoes. All flowers and the chives were seeds.
Above the raised beds on the right is the earth garden. There we planted watermelon (Sugar Baby), cantaloupe, Butternut squash, Spaghetti squash, cucumbers, zucchini, and balmoral squash. We put radish seeds in between the goodies and shallots around the hills, both in an attempt to protect from bugs. (this works, per books - I'll let you know - however, fingers and toes are currently crossed!)
In the upper left bed, we have 5 different tomato plants and we put shallots all around - again for protection, and, let's face it, shallots are yummy!!
In the lower left bed, we have 2 eggplants - one straight purple and one straight white - can't wait to see if they taste the same! We also have 3 different peppers in that bed. I planted 5 garlic cloves (white) that we were given. (the 6th white one made it to the upper left bed, per Jeff)
In the "little" square bed, we have 2 okra that I started inside & 2 hills of cucumbers (Jeff loves cukes!). We put shallots around and down the center of that bed. We also have Elephant garlic in this bed!!
We have one pepper (yellow bell) in a container and one cherry tomato in a topsy turvy.
On the decorative front, Jeff put the birdbath and one feeder over on the garden side & put the bluebird house up over near the garden too. He even made me an attractive compost pile! Yes, he's gifted and I will take pictures so you can see what I mean.
